American Slums and the 2x1

We need american slums (again).

Wait, woah. Who wants a slum? (Don't we already have those)?

For those who have studied the slums, we know that slums are fantastic. They provide cheap accessible housing and wealth building for the super poor. For many people the tin shed they live in is better than the grass hut they left. Slums as a more polite term are simply "Transitional Housing." A big, official sounding word that can be used at parties, and in congressional bills. But we don't have any transitional housing in America anymore. We used to.

The first government projects in the 1950's didn't target the poor. They targeted young professionals fresh out of the army and WWII. But now projects have become exclusive and exhausted and those professionals are now supposed to live in an apartment until we can pledge away 30 years of our lives on some mc mansion in the suburbs. But it doesn't have to be this way.

This is why we are creating the 2x1. Cheap, Good, Green, Homes for those in transition. The initial design calls for a house and land for under 50-100k that will last and be a proper alternative to the apartment.

Will there be a market for this? Maybe not. Will it redefine housing? Maybe not. Is it a new idea? No. Should we do it? Yes.
